Sunday Worship Update
Dear Peoples People,
As you read in my letter to you yesterday, Peoples Church has been carefully monitoring the COVID-19 situation. Sometime after I sent that letter, the President of our Unitarian Universalist Association, Rev. Susan Frederick Gray, recommended “that congregations avoid gatherings of more than 25 people, including worship and religious education.”
The Peoples Church Board is meeting Sunday night to discuss this recommendation and any/all recommendations and directives from health authorities and to develop a comprehensive COVID-19 response plan for our faith community. You can expect details to be communicated sometime early next week.
In the meantime, I would like to invite everyone to take a deep breath with me and PAUSE.
Worship and Faith Formation are cancelled for this Sunday, March 15, but being a spiritual community is not.
Please take several deep breaths this weekend and find your center. On Sunday morning, instead of coming to church, consider engaging in a spiritual practice at home. There are several wonderful ideas in the attached Soulful Home packet. Or you can meditate, pray, go outside, take a walk, or call a Peoples member or friend you haven’t talked to in a while.
In addition, I will be sending out a reflection and a prayer that morning you can read at home. If you have anything you wish to be included in this prayer, please let me know.
I am hoping this brief pause in business as usual will allow each one of us to collect ourselves and ground ourselves spiritually and allow the Peoples Church Board and me the time we need to figure out the best course of action for moving forward.
If you are feeling anxious, you are not alone. And you do not have to experience “social distancing” alone. I am here and available by phone, email, and online. Others are as well. Take good care and reach out for support.
Thank you for your understanding.
