Wise Words, December 2018

It’s the most wonderful time of the year
With the kids jingle belling,
And everyone telling you be of good cheer,
It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
It’s the hap-happiest season of all
With those holiday greetings
And gay happy meetings
When friends come to call
It’s the hap-happiest season of all!
There’ll be parties for hosting,
Marshmallows for toasting ,
And caroling out in the snow.
There’ll be scary ghost stories,
And tales of the glories of Christmases
long, long ago!
It’s the most wonderful time of the year,
There’ll be much mistltoeing,
And hearts will be glowing
When loved ones are near,
It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

Those words from the early 1960’s, made famous by Andy Williams, talk about the happy side of Christmas! And there are many things for which we can be happy and thankful. Often though those who are struggling for one reason or another seem to be, at times, forgotten.

The Holiday season is a great time but for many it is a struggle. Perhaps a loved one died around the holidays. Perhaps this is the first holiday without someone who was special and close. Perhaps the future is uncertain for a person or a family. The issues at the border certainly cause us concerns. The issue of hunger and poverty is not going away soon.

This holiday season I encourage you to pay close attention to those who are around you who may not think this is the most wonderful time of the year. Check on them. Let them know you care. Let them be assured you are there for them!

Consider what you can do for those who are less fortunate! We are, in so many ways, privileged. What about those who aren’t? What can you do?

What about those who are hurting and struggling? What can you do?

On a personal note—Karen, my wife, was recently diagnosed with Endometrial cancer. We believe it was caught very early. She is scheduled for surgery in mid December. Your prayers are appreciated.
