People’s UU Summer Faith Formation Adventures!

Just because we aren’t meeting for Faith Formation classes this summer doesn’t mean we won’t be having fun! See below for all the ways you can join in!

Do you have a child or youth who will be attending Faith Formation this year?  If so, please click here to register them.  Don’t wait until you are busy with back to school things. Check it off your to-do list now!

Thank You from Iowa Safe schools!

Last year, the youth worked hard to put on a game night which raised more than $350 for Iowa Safe Schools. This was part of more than $1,100 raised by the congregation. Below is the thank you note we received. Thank you all for your hard work and generosity!

 

July Activities

• Nature Hangout: Sunday, July 27th — 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Wikiup Hill Learning Center. Spend Sunday morning before worshiphanging out and playing in nature with Friends! No need to register or sign-up. We will provide snacks!

 

Youth Co-Op

The Youth Co-op is a safe and loving ecumenical youth group for all students in 6th – 12th grades.  We embrace all youth no matter race, abilities, ethnicities, gender identities, expressions, and sexual orientations. We provide opportunities for fun, learning activities, faith and spirituality exploration, and service to the community. People’s Church Unitarian Universalist partners with the following churches to make the Youth Co-op possible: Lovely Lane United Methodist Church, St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church (ELCA), and Trinity St. James United Methodist Church. If you plan to attend a Youth Co-Op even, please let bridget know at faithformation@peoplesuu.org.

• Outdoor Movie Night: Sunday, July 27th — Time to be determined. Let’s watch a movie! Join us for outdoor movie night at St. Paul’s United Methodist (1340 3rd Ave SE, Cedar Rapids). In case of rain, we will move indoors for a pillow fort night.

August Activities

• Blessing of the Learners (Backpack Blessing): Sunday, August 24th — 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. You are invited to come to this special, improvisational style service to help get ready for the beginning of the school year!  YES, we will be doing a backpack blessing, AND we would like to bless ALL of the learners who are starting classes this fall.   So, yes, bring your backpacks that you’ll be taking back to school. AND bring the yoga mat you take to meditation class and/or the gardening tools you use in a Master Gardener course, and/or the book you’ll be learning from with a book club.   We will bless it all and celebrate all of the creative ways that we learn!
• Pool Party at Cherry Hill Aquatic Centre: Sunday, August 24th — 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Let’s end the summer by cooling off at the pool together!  Bring your family and swim or sunbathe or just hang out.  The perfect way to end the summer with your church friends.
