Some Wise (or “Why’s”) Ramp Questions & Answers
As we move ahead post-haste with our access ramps, you might have some questions, and the Building & Grounds Team has answers. Let’s see if we can match them up:
- Why are we installing accessibility ramps? Answer: In last year’s listening sessions you, the congregation, told us that accessibility was the most important physical need of our church to truly make it welcoming to all!
- Why does the exterior ramp extend out into the parking lot as opposed to running along the wall like most? Answer: This allowed us to minimize the loss of parking spaces and yet maintain a direct route to the west door for non-disabled users.
- Why isn’t there a “Push-to-Open” button for the west door? Answer: We elected to complete the ramp installation before the “power assist door opener” and “Push to Open” button are installed. So, they will be coming very soon!
- Why is the interior ramp to the chancel in the “Studio” room? Answer(s): This was the only option to avoid disruption to the sanctuary and meet ADA requirements in a cost-effective manner. We believe the Studio will still be useable for small meetings.
